After one year of living in Berlin, I was presented with some of the most beautiful sunsets in Berlin. As the sun sets on Berlin, the city takes on a whole new vibe. The sky becomes a canvas of pinks, oranges, and purples, casting a warm glow over the city and its iconic landmarks.
No matter where you choose to watch the sunset in Berlin, the experience is unforgettable. So grab a loved one, a camera, and a sense of adventure, and discover the best places to view the sunset in Berlin.
Tips for sunset photography
First things first, here are some Sunset Photography tips so that you are ready for the incredible spectacle of the Berlin sunsets.
- Timing – Timing is key for sunset photography and you should try to get to your place in advance both to explore the area and find the best spots and to make sure you actually can watch the sunset, from beginning to end. I would recommend getting to your place at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time if you already know what you want to photograph.
- Scout for Unique Perspectives – Besides the 30 minutes, you should also get to your location as early as you need to scout the area for the most unique perspectives to capture the most special photographs of the sunset.
- Use a tripod – This is an option but it can allow you to ensure you get sharper images in case you need to use longer shutter speeds to capture the beauty of the sunset colours or, for example, smooth the water in a river. Here is a Lightweight Camera Tripod, or if you prefer something more sophisticated, you will love This Victiv tripod.
- Capture Reflections – Speaking of rivers, it is a great idea to try to find reflections to photograph during the sunset. This makes the photograph even more colourful and unique.
- Weather and Atmospheric conditions – Scattered cloudy skies and hazy conditions can enhance the colours and drama of the sunset, originating more interesting pictures and magical sunsets. Rainy days may also give rise to puddles that may improve your overall photography. For rainy days you may find this transparent camera rain cover or this black camera rain cover.
Now the last thing to choose is your Location. This is not always easy since you won’t want to lose the views from any of these places. Below you can find some stunning inspiration from the sunsets in Berlin.

Spreebogenpark
The first place to watch some beautiful sunsets in Berlin is the peaceful Spreebogenpark. This is a hidden gem in Berlin, an open space near the main train Station, Berlin Hauptbahnhof, which makes it rather easy to get there.
An advantage of this place, especially on longer and warmer days is that you can stay there relaxing, enjoying friends’ company or reading a book seated on the grass while you wait for the mesmerizing sunset.
As the sun gracefully descends, it casts a warm golden glow over the park illuminating the skyline and reflecting on the tranquil waters. At this point, you will see the sun disappearing behind the main station and the colours reflecting on the spree and on the Cube, a smart office building left to the main station that, due to its architecture also reflects the sky colours making it even more special. Try to find the best side to see the reflections on the building. Usually either on the back or left side, depending on the sky conditions and time of the sunset.

Brandenburg Gate
Near the Spreebogenpark, across the Platz der Republik and the Reichstag Building, you’ll find the iconic Brandenburg Gate, one of the main symbols of freedom in the country.

Here, the sun sets right behind this landmark, and, depending on the atmospheric conditions, you can capture stunning pink clouds above it after the golden rays bathe the columns, casting a warm glow over the architectural marvel. Another option that is less dependent on the atmospheric conditions is to watch the sun setting through the columns, casting a shadow of the Brandenburg Gate onto the floor.
Berliner Dom
On the other side of Unter den Linden, you find Lustgarten and Berlin Innenstadt Park. Around these parks, you can find some of the most iconic Berlin buildings, such as the Berliner Dom. This cathedral is one of Berlin’s most famous and significant buildings, built over 10 years in the late 19th century.
One of the most unbelievably stunning sunsets I experienced in Berlin was in the Berlin Innenstadt Park looking at the Berliner Dom after being there a while reading a book.
Here you can capture the cathedral’s silhouette of the against the vibrant sky colours and watch the sun illuminate the cathedral’s windows with a warm orange colour.

Humboldt Forum

Right by the Berliner Dom, you can find the Humboldt Forum, a cultural and museum complex located in Berlin’s Museum island. Besides the diverse collections, exhibitions, events, performances, lectures, and workshops, most relevant for this article, is the rooftop that exists on the building. You can get your ticket at the Humboldt Forum website.
The advantage of this sunset spot is the panoramic view above the skyline of some of the most iconic Berlin Buildings such as the Berliner Dom.

Warschauer Straße

Further away from the city centre, you can find one of the most beautiful places to photograph the sunset (in my opinion). The Warschauer Straße is an iconic street in Berlin that holds significant historical and cultural importance. It is known as a vibrant nightlife and transportation hub in Berlin.
Regarding the sunset, one of my favourite places to take pictures of it is the bridge over the train tracks right on the other side of the S-Bahn station. Even though this is definitely one of the least peaceful spots to experience the magic of the sunset, it is one of the coolest places to photograph it. The urban energy, the view of the TV tower and the busy train tracks below (which sometimes reflect the sky) make this place one of the best places to photograph the sunset.

Oberbaum Bridge
Here you are by one of the prettiest and most important bridges in Berlin. As the sun descends over the vibrant city of Berlin, one of the most enchanting spots to witness the evening spectacle is the iconic Oberbaum Bridge. Connecting the neighbourhoods of Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg, this historic landmark is more than just a crossing point over the River Spree—it’s a gateway to breathtaking sunsets.
Perched on the bridge, you’re treated to a panoramic view of the cityscape as the sky transforms into a canvas of warm hues. The bridge’s iconic red-brick towers frame the scene, creating a picturesque setting that is nothing short of magical. As the golden hour casts its glow, the river’s gentle ripples reflect the vibrant colours, painting an ethereal picture.

Elsen Bridge
This is a bridge somewhat close to the Oberbaum Bridge. You get here from the S-bahn Treptow and from here you have the perfect view of the Molecule Man, the Oberbaum Bridge and the TV tower in the background. This is a bridge frequently frequented by photographers, especially at sunset because of its amazing atmosphere. It is not the more relaxing place because you are near the road and train tracks but the views are worth it.
You can here watch the world go by, the boats pass below you and the people practising water sports at this magical time of the day. You can also watch the sunset from the water with catamaran tours of the Spree river.
Note: Last time I went to this bridge there was construction work and the bridge was closed to people. If you have information about the current state of this spot, leave them below for other people to find and be updated!
Siegessäule
As the sun descends over Berlin’s iconic Tiergarten, there’s no better place to witness the breathtaking spectacle of a sunset than from the vantage point of Siegessäule, also known as the Victory Column. Positioned majestically in the heart of the city, this towering monument offers a panoramic view that becomes even more enchanting during the golden hour. Even though the sunset itself occurs on the other side of the famous Berlin landmarks, you can still experience an incredible colourful sky above these buildings if you are lucky with the atmospheric conditions.
Climb the spiralling staircase and reach the viewing platform atop Siegessäule, where you’ll be rewarded with an awe-inspiring vista. As the sky transforms into a canvas of fiery oranges, radiant pinks, and hues of violet, the city below is bathed in a warm, ethereal glow. The silhouettes of Berlin’s iconic landmarks, from the Brandenburg Gate to the Berliner Dom, are framed against the colourful backdrop, creating a picture-perfect scene.

Frankfurter Allee
This is probably not the first place that comes to your mind when you think about the most beautiful places to watch the sun setting in Berlin. However, a special thing about this street is that the TV tower perfectly aligns with its centre of it, which is an amazing opportunity to explore the perspectives of this tower and the roads and cars passing by. Especially in the autumn and spring, when the sunset tends to occur in rush hour, this is definitely not a tranquil place but it is a great opportunity to photograph the buzzing city at sunset and with one of its major landmarks on the back.

Tempelhofer Feld
This is one of the most iconic places in Berlin. This park is so special because it was converted from a historic airport that was crucial during WWII and Cold War, in particular during the Berlin Airlift (During almost one year, during 1948 – 1949, the URSS cut off the city from the rest of the world which made Western Allies needing to get vital supplies to West Berlin, which was done mainly to this airport). If you want to know all about this amazing place you can visit the airport.
Nowadays, this is an ample park with 300 hectares (740 acres) where usually Berliners go to take walks, practice skating or ride a bicycle. Here is an amazing place to relax while the sunset is not here and to take cool street photography at the golden hour.

Alexanderplatz

Alexanderplatz is one of the most iconic squares in Berlin. This busy square has a privileged view of the TV tower. Even though this is not the prettiest not the most tranquil place in the city, you can be presented with stunning sunsets behind Berlin’s most known landmark. From the square, find a cosy spot on one of the benches or outdoor cafes, and watch as the sun paints the surrounding buildings in warm hues of gold and amber. The city’s skyline transforms into a breathtaking panorama, showcasing the juxtaposition of historic and modern architecture. A particular special capture of the sunset occurs when the sun is setting after a rainy day, where you can find puddles around the place, especially near the Deutsch Bank building (coordinates: 52.523145, 13.415663).
Teufelsberg
Lastly, we have a bit of a Berlin hidden gem. This is the hardest spot to get since it entitles a bit of hiking and going up a hill, Berlin’s tallest hill to be specific. It is a beautiful hike in a place with such history.
The experience here is incredible, you will get to the top of an abandoned Cold War listening station, I embraced the serene ambience that enveloped the site. The crumbling remnants of history stood as silent witnesses to the passage of time. Here you find a lot of history and street/urban art. The radar domes, even though ruined still preserve their sound amplification capabilities and it is impressive to experience the amplification of any little sound that happens inside them. Here people like to clap their hands or whistle to test these capabilities. This was one of my favourite alternative places to watch the sunset in Berlin, it is very worth the hike to get there.
